POPIA
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 12 October 2026
Dr Makanda ("the practice", "we", "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). This policy explains how we collect, use and protect the information you share with us through this website.
1. Responsible party
The responsible party for personal information collected through this website is Dr Makanda, practice number PR1369016, Suite 110, 1st Floor, Melomed Private Hospital, Mitchells Plain, Cape Town, 7785.
Information officer contact: dr@drmakanda.co.za · 021 110 5064.
2. What information we collect
When you submit the appointment request form, we collect:
- Your full name, phone number and email address
- Your preferred contact method and preferred appointment date
- The general reason for your visit and whether you are a new or existing patient
- Your medical aid name (optional)
- The short message you choose to include
- A record of your consent to be contacted
We ask that you do not share detailed medical information through the website form. Your health information will be discussed and recorded privately during your consultation.
3. Why we collect it
We use your information only to:
- Contact you to confirm, schedule or follow up on your appointment request
- Respond to your enquiry using your preferred contact method
- Prepare for your visit (for example, noting whether you are a new patient)
We do not use your information for marketing, and we never sell or rent it to anyone.
4. Legal basis and consent
We process your personal information on the basis of the consent you give when you tick the consent box on the form, and to take steps at your request before providing healthcare services. You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us, although this may affect our ability to respond to your request.
5. How your form submission is processed
Form submissions are transmitted securely (encrypted over HTTPS) via Web3Forms, a third-party form-processing service, which delivers your request to the practice's email inbox. Web3Forms acts as an operator on our behalf and processes the data only to deliver the message. Because Web3Forms may process data outside South Africa, we rely on its contractual and security commitments to provide an adequate level of protection, as required by section 72 of POPIA.
Once received, your information is accessed only by Dr Makanda and authorised practice staff, who are bound by confidentiality.
6. How long we keep it
Appointment request emails are kept only as long as needed to handle your request. If you become a patient, your information forms part of your medical record and is retained in line with HPCSA guidelines and applicable law.
7. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against loss, unauthorised access, disclosure or destruction, including secure transmission and restricted access.
8. Your rights
Under POPIA you have the right to:
- Ask whether we hold personal information about you and request access to it
- Ask us to correct or delete inaccurate or outdated information
- Object to the processing of your personal information
- Withdraw your consent
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa): inforeg.org.za
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at dr@drmakanda.co.za.

This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Embedded Google Maps content is loaded only when you scroll to it, and Google may set its own cookies when the map loads, under Google's privacy policy.
